While I was in Peru, we discussed the recently elected President Alan GarcĂa. He'd been president of Peru before & was widely known as the worse president ever. His term was known for severe economic crisis, social unrest, violence and the terrorist group The Shining Path.
When asked why on earth he was voted back in instead of the liberal opponent Ollanta Humala - everyone I spoke to in Peru had the same story.
They were going to vote for Humala right until close to the elections - when people found out that Humala 'was like Bush': wanting to go to war, wanting the Peruvian people to hate other countries for no reason - more of a dictator than a President.
So they stuck with their worst President ever - because even he was still better than the 'Bush' equivalent.
